BeTONt
2026/2027
CoGNiMUS presents BeTONt. A concert residency in Gottfried Bohm churches around the city of Cologne. Böhm’s distinctive architectural style—shaped by the possibilities of his time while maintaining a strong connection to tradition—has inspired CoGNiMUS to translate this approach into music.
Böhm’s architecture often brings together modern materials and inherited forms. His buildings do not treat tradition as something fixed, but as material that can be transformed and carried into the present. BeTONt transfers this principle into music. The ensemble has therefore conceived five unique concert experiences, each specifically tailored to a respective Böhm building.
Across the series, historical repertoire will be placed alongside contemporary composition, sound installation, staged performance and participatory formats. Each programme is being developed in response to the history, structure and acoustic character of its venue.
The concerts therefore do not simply take place inside Böhm’s buildings. The buildings help determine how the music is selected, staged and experienced.
